This time of year is when you start seeing motorcycles on the road again. As a driver, you need to be extra cautious of motorcycle riders and watch out for their safety and yours. Follow these tips in order to keep everyone safe on the road!
- Stay Alert – You should always stay alert while driving and put the cellphone down. Turn your radio down while you are at it. You can usually hear a motorcycle before you see it!
- Ask Your Passengers For Help: If you have a passenger, put them to use! If you are merging or turning ask them to look around for motorcycles that you may not be aware of.
- Increase the Gap: You should never tailgate anyone, especially motorcycles. Stay about 3 – 4 car lengths behind a motorcycle to give yourself ample time to slow down or stop in the event of an accident.
- Use Your Signals: Motorcycle riders can come up on vehicles quickly and make quicker maneuvers than an average car. Always be aware of your surroundings and use your blinkers and mirrors when turning or merging.
This is just a short list of things that you can do in order to protect the safety of yourself and motorcycles riders around you. Just remember, stay alert, watch out for everyone on the road, and stay safe! There’s someone waiting at home for every driver and rider.
